New Trends for Prom 2009 Date: 01/02/2009

Now that we have officially entered into the New Year; we here at Cinderella's Closet are thinking PROM! This year prom is all about Prints, Metallics, and Short prom dresses. These three trends are super easy to get in one as Prom designers have revealed thousands of new dresses which are being uploaded onto CinderellasGowns.com as we speak!

Prints range from demure roses at Alyce Designs to bold pansy prints from Jovani. And it's not just florals, look to La Femme for great abstract prints and Panoply Designs for sexy animal prints. Nearly every prom designer has a great print selection! Remember, the proportion of a print should match the proportion of the girl wearing it. In other words if you're petite pick a smaller print. If the all over print isn't for you, look for a dress with print accents, like a printed sash at the waist or print lining.

In Metallics look for new lame'. I know what you're thinking, "Yuck! Lame' is lame!" But, this year designers have really changed lame' and it deserves a second look. Lame' for Prom 2009 is all about soft. Designers took sexy satin charmeuse and sprayed on gold or silver lame', so the fabric has all the softness and sexy body hugging traits of charmeuse with the shine of lame'. Some even run metallic lame' threads thorough soft chiffon and organza. If you still don't think you're ready for the full on shine of lame' you can still get in on the metallic trend with a sexy high heel shoe in silver or gold, clear is out this year, or clutch purse.

The clutch is the way to go for evening bags this year, by the way. Look for a bag big enough to slip you cell phone, lip gloss, and emergency cash into; it's not fair to ask your date to lug all your stuff in his pockets. Plus, we all know guys and his rental tux is likely to go back to the store on Monday morning with your stuff still tucked in the pockets.

Short prom dresses started gathering popularity for Prom 2008, but in 2009 look for even more shorts! The long prom dress has reigned supreme for years, but short prom dresses are really making a splash this year. These short prom dresses are covered in sequins, roses, gathers, beads, and more. The short prom dress needs to be extra glitzy to keep from looking too informal at Prom. Paris by Tony Bowls and Jovani do the short prom dress right. A short dress also gives you the freedom to wear really spectacular heels, since everyone will see them; also no need to worry about anyone (like your adorable, but clumsy date) stepping all over your dress.
